Tamworth AC track given new lease of life by repairs

Affiliated club Tamworth AC recently rejuvenated their track facility with a track clean and repairs, with club members saying that the project has given them a renewed motivation to achieve their goals.

Tamworth AC received support from our Facilities & Planning Manager Ed Hunt, who arranged financial assistance from the Facilities Investment Fund, with the work helping them complete track cleaning, crack repairs, and repainting of all of the white lines on their track.

The work has enabled the club to keep the track in a strong condition for athletes to train on, also helping them achieve TrackMark accreditation meaning they can continue to host competitions at the venue.

Here, you can see one straight of the track before and after the repairs:

Refreshed motivation

Club Liaison Officer, Dave Williams, worked with Ed Hunt on the process and is delighted with the results, speaking particularly about the improvements to their long and triple jump facilities:

"The jumps runways look fantastic and the grip gives you the confidence to attack the take-off point.

"Our newly cleaned and repainted track has now given us a great season of training and competition. The brightness of the track and line markings has given everyone a boost, both from the way it looks and the way it feels underfoot.

Motivation is something that comes to athletes in many ways but sometimes it is just the joy of running and running fast. And when the track looks good and the surface is great then everyone gets a boost."

Taking pride in the facility

The hurdles group at the club are just as pleased with the results, with athletes saying:

"It's much easier to lay out hurdles for training when the colours are all clear on the hurdle markings."

"The cleaner track makes you feel like there is more grip to attack the hurdles."

"We are proud of what it looks like, proud to invite other clubs to competitions."

One of the sprints group said that the repairs had given them a refreshed drive to achieve their goals:

"This has given me motivation to set targets to aim for!"

Many members have commented that it feels like a brand new track, and that they feel more confident in welcoming other clubs to their rejuvenated facility. A senior coach said:

"It looks like a brand new track! We have a facility we are excited to train on and other clubs will be excited to compete on when we host matches."
