Success in Italy for England under-23's

Last weekend a team of eight travelled to Trieste, Italy to compete in the Corsa Dei Castelli 10k. Greeted by outstanding views, the quick course started at the Miramare Castle through the city centre with a challenging climb in the last kilometre to the San Giusto Castle.

Competing against nine other teams from Europe, the English contingent dominated the team races to take women's team gold, and men's team bronze!

Women's team

  • 3rd: Holly Weedall (Vale Royal, Dean Miller), 35:14
  • 4th: Libby Huxley (Preston Harriers, Andy Bibby), 35:20
  • 7th: Megan Gadsby (City of Norwich, Mick Woods), 35:30
  • 15th: Indira Patel (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, Bill Foster), 37:13

Men's team

  • 5th: William Aitken (Doncaster AC), 31:46
  • 7th: Matt Ramsden (Blackburn Harriers AC, Edmund Finucane), 31:56
  • 11th: Joseph O'Connell (AFD, Mick Woods), 32:03
  • 19th: Brandon Quinton (Warrington AC, Tom Greaves), 32:34

Team Leader, Hayley Hemmings, commented:

“This opportunity was a great experience for all athletes to not only take advantage of the competition but also a chance to experience an international team match. A fantastic opportunity to race over 10k against European countries.”
