Statement on calendar year age group calculations

As the Home Country Athletics Federations (HCAFs) continue to outline the specific ways in which Age Group changes will be implemented in April 2026, England Athletics has again reiterated its commitment to maintain the age calculation date for athletes competing in England as 1 September.

While the wider changes on Age Groups – which you can read about here – will come into effect on 1 April 2026 there will be no change in the calculation date for athletes competing in England, which will remain 1 September. This repeats the commitment made at the recent General Meeting (of which this topic was raised as a special resolution):

"The (England Athletics) Board commits that it will not propose or consult on any change to the calculation date during the next four years (unless the membership were to direct the Board to do so)."

The HCAFs expect to be able to publish the latest update on the implementation of Age Group changes imminently.
