England Athletics were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Shaun Pickering, who cared passionately for our sport and was an inspiration to so many.
Although a Welsh athlete in the home nations competitions such as the Commonwealth Games, Olympian Shaun was very involved with the England Athletics Hall of Fame with both his parents (Ron and Jean having been inducted in 2009 and 2011 respectively). Shaun was inducted into the Welsh Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.
The Ron Pickering Memorial Fund (RPMF) presents U18, U20 and U23 Performance Athlete of the Year awards during the England Athletics Hall of Fame evening. As a trustee, Shaun helped to administer and act as ambassador for the RPMF which has been closely associated with England Athletics for many years.
Instrumental in establishing the RPMF following the death of his father in 1991, and latterly to commemorate his mother Jean’s passing 10 years ago, Shaun’s own legacy, aligning with that of his parents, will continue to provide invaluable support to young athletes.
Shaun’s funeral will take place on Monday 12 June, 12 noon
at Enfield Crematorium and Cemetery, Great Cambridge Road, Enfield EN1 4DS.
This will be followed by a Celebration of Life, 1.30pm
at Forty Hall, The Banqueting Suite, Forty Hill, Enfield EN2 9HA.
Light refreshments will be available.
For those unable to attend, there will be a webcast of the service – further details to follow. No need to wear black and no flowers please - memorial donations to @runforron and messages can be sent via Justgiving.
