PBs and season's bests for England team in Copenhagen
On Sunday a mixture of seasoned internationals and debutants travelled to Denmark to compete in the Copenhagen Half Marathon. The team found good conditions, a super fast course and deep crowds to cheer them around the 13.1 miles as they went head-to-head with some of the best road runners in the world.
Verity Hopkins (Tonbridge, Richard Owen) had a sparkling race taking 43 seconds off her previous PB to 1:12:38 to finish 15th in an incredible field let home by Margaret Kipkemboi in 1:05:11. 2021 European indoor silver medallist Holly Archer (Cambridge & Coleridge, James Thie) also had a fantastic race running her fastest half for two years, just 12 seconds outside her PB (1:12.59). Tessa McCormick (Vale Royal, Geoff Watkin) had a more challenging race which meant she needed to ease back from her original goal pace early and finished in 43rd in 1:18:12.
Tewelde Menges (Medway & Maidstone) led home the English athletes with 64:31, his third fastest half marathon finishing 41st place. Norman Shreeve (Cambridge & Coleridge, Phil O’Dell) had a strong run as he builds up to the autumn marathon season. He was the second of the team to finish in 65:01. Ed Buck (Newark AC, Bill Taylor) finished hot on Norman’s heels with a PB of 65:23.
Tom Craggs, National Endurance Manager (Off Track), said;
"Well done to all the selected athletes and their coaches on an really strong team performance, gaining further experience of top level road racing in a fantastic city."
