Paul Moseley, Trevor Painter and KJT's coaching team recognised in UK Coaching Awards

Earlier this week a number of the UK's most remarkable coaches - individuals whose dedication and expertise have transformed lives over the past year – were celebrated at the annual UK Coaching Awards, held in Leeds.

Widely regarded as the pinnacle of recognition within the coaching community, the UK Coaching Awards shine a spotlight on the extraordinary contributions of coaches across all levels of sport and physical activity.

We were excited to learn that two of England's outstanding track and field coaches, Paul Moseley and Trevor Painter, were nominated in both the High Performance Coach of the Year and Great Coaching Moment categories whilst Katarina Johnson-Thompson's team were recognised for the Coaching Chain award.

As a result of a public vote Paul Moseley, coach to nine-time Paralympic medallist Hannah Cockroft OBE, picked up the Great Coaching Moment of the Year award for his instrumental support in Hannah retaining her Paralympic titles over the 100m and 800m. Speaking at the Awards, Paul said:

"I am a little bit shocked to be honest and completely honoured as well. There have been some amazing coaching moments, the people who I was in contention with are amazing in their own right so I am a little in shock and awe that I have won.

"It is also about giving a massive recognition to not only myself but also the work that Hannah has done in the achievements that she's had over the last year but especially in Paris. It was really special as they were our first Paralympic medals together as a coaching team."

After an outstanding year on the track, Trevor Painter was awarded the High Performance Coach of the Year. From Olympic, European and domestic success, Trevor's athletes such as Keely Hodgkinson, Georgia Bell and many others have stamped their dominance on the endurance world and relay.

Collecting the award on behalf of Trevor was Darren Borthwick, a key component in the coaching team at the M11 Track Club. He reflected:

"It's so important for Trevor and Jenny too to be recognised, they make a cracking team. We create an environment for our athletes where they can go on and be successful which they have done this summer.

"We had around five to six athletes go to the Olympics this year so for three of those to come home with medals was really special. Trevor really leads the way. I know how much time goes into putting one athlete's plan together and we had three athletes with medals coming home so you can imagine the amount of work that goes into it and how much care and attention too. We are dealing with young people and it is important that side of things is reflected too."

The spotlight was certainly on track and field as the team behind Katarina Johnson-Thompson's outstanding Olympic heptathlon medal were celebrated with a Coaching Chain award. Indeed it is the athlete on the world stage whether they are running, jumping, throwing or pushing, but they would not have made it to the peak of their careers without a dedicated support network.

On their recognition, head coach Aston Moore said:

"It is fantastic, one of the best things about this award is recognising all the coaches who are involved in an athlete's career. A lot of the time only the coach who wins that big medal is mentioned and it is really good to see all the coaches who are involved in the whole journey."

Another member of the coaching team added: "We are so proud because this is a story from childhood to adulthood of a young girl who loved sport, was very active, loves athletics and has embraced every stage of the journey from primary school to an Olympic silver medallist. We are wonderfully proud."
