Paralympic factoid: universal relay
Our Olympic teams won a medal in every relay event. But did you know there is just one special relay event at the Paris Paralympic Games?
It's called the Universal 4x100m relay and features four athletes (2 male and 2 female) with different classifications. No relay baton is used - it's just a tag the next athlete within the 30m relay takeover zone (40m for wheelchairs).
A visually impaired runner (with or without guide runner) takes leg one, tags an amputee for the second section, followed by a cerebral palsy (or equivalent) athlete, and the final 100m is a wheelchair race.
There are a lot of pre-race tactics in team compostition to comply with the rules for this event! Can you work out your dream relay team following all the rules?
