Mountain running team announced for Trofeo Nasego in Italy

We are pleased to announce the England Athletics team selected to compete in a six nations competition against Italy, France, Scotland, Wales and Ireland within the Trofeo Nasego mountain running event in italy.

The Nasego World Cup involves two races which makes for a tough weekend, the first race is uphill only over 4.2km and 1000m of ascent, then the following day it’s an up and down race over 21km with 1300m+ of ascent. The team will compete in both events.

Team Manager Mark Croasdale said,

"This will be the second time England Athletics have sent a team to this prestigious mountain race weekend in Italy, and it will be a fantastic experience, as well as a very tough weekend for all the team."

George Foster is representing England for the second time having raced last year at the Trofeo Vanoni relays in Italy. He also represented GB&NI at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Thailand in 2022, competing in the gruelling 80km race.

Ben Rothery is the current English Fell Running Champion and won the trial race to gain selection. Ben also represented GB &NI at last year’s European Off Road Championships and helped win the team silver medal in the up and down mountain race.

Oscar Subah-Symons was third in the trial race and this will be his second England vest - having competed at last year's Senior Home International Mountain Race, helping England win the team gold medal.

Scarlet Dale has had a very successful junior career at both World and European Championships and is now putting her stamp on the senior ranks. Scarlet competed last year at the European Off Road Championships and finished 11th in the uphill race and was part of the silver medal winning team. Scarlet was second in the trial race at Newlands.

Nichola Jackson is one of the most experienced athletes in the team and first represented GB&NI in 2017 at the World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships in Italy. Nichola is the current English Fell Running Champion and was third at the trial.

Elle Twentyman will be representing England for the second time, having competed last year at the Senior Home International Mountain Race. Elle also competed at last year's European Off Road Championships in France, finishing 15th in the uphill race and part of the silver medal winning team. Elle was fifth in the Newlands Memorial Fell Race to gain selection.

Sara Willhoit is one of our most experienced athletes and has run for GB&NI at World Championships over long distance and uphill only races in recent years. Last season Sara also ran at the European Off Road Running Championships and finished seventh in the uphill race and was part of the silver medal winning team. Sara ran at last year's Trofeo Nasego (pictured top) finishing eighth - and tenth in the uphill and longer up and down races.

We wish the team all the best!
