Manchester marathon sees 2025 England champions crowned
The racing was as hot as the weather on Sunday as 36,000 people pounded the streets of Manchester for the 2025 Manchester Marathon. This year the race had a new route, finishing on Oxford Road in front of the spectacular University of Manchester.
Crowds lined the streets as the runners set off from Old Trafford under a cloudless blue sky. The race was also the setting for the England Athletics Marathon Championships
In the men’s race a small group of runners broke away from the main pack to set a strong pace. The lead changed hands several times within this group before Joshua Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) broke away to win the main race in a time of 2:16:56. He was followed home by Matt Sharp (Ryde Harriers) in a time of 2:17:22, and Kevin Campbell in 2:17:38. London Heathside's Seyfu Jamaal took the England silver in a new personal best time of 2:18:03.
In the women's race Tessa McCormick (Vale Royal AC) made a decisive break mid-race. She then held the lead for the rest of the race to win in a time of 2:34:53. Tessa was followed home by Olivia Tsim (Pontypridd Roadents AC) in a time of 2:25:43, and Nina Griffith (Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow) in 2:36:46.
