England team strong at Antrim Coast Race weekend

England’s fab four of Kate Axford, Rebecca Johnson, Blake Moore, and Michael Wilson took to the streets on Friday to compete in the Classic Mile as part of the Antrim Coast Race weekend.

In the elite women’s race, it was Axford who edged her England teammate to finish 2nd overall (0:04:39) ahead of 3rd placed Johnson (0:04:41).

For the men, Moore crossed the line as first English athlete and 2nd overall in a time of 0:04:07 one place and one second ahead of teammate Wilson (0:04:08)

Antrim Mile team 2023

In the men’s Antrim Coast half marathon on Sunday, Ollie Lockley was first home for England in a time of 1:05:05 to finish 18th, followed by teammates Jonathan Collier in 20th (1:05:52), and Nick Bowker in 21st (1:06:13).

In the women’s race, Verity Hopkins ran strongly representing England to finish 11th in 1:14:05 followed across the line by Red Rose colleague Camilla McKnespiey in 13th (1:15:04)

Antrim Half Marathon team 2023

It was a highly competitive race over a fast course on the beautiful coast road between Larne and Ballygally with a World Athletics Elite Label.

Tom Craggs, National Endurance Manager for Off Track at England Athletics, said:

“The bond between the team members and the beautiful routes ensured for a great weekend for all involved. A huge well done to the team and their coaches, in particular thank you to Charlotte Fisher and Allison Benton for their help across the weekend."
