England team ready to take on Valencia 10k

A team of six athletes are preparing to represent England at one of the World's fastest 10km races in Valencia on 14 January. The team, which includes a mix of  experienced athletes and debutants will compete against many of the world's best 10k runners at the 10k Valencia Ibercaja race. 

2014 European Cross Country Champion Gemma Steel (Charnwood, Liz Nuttall) has a wealth of experience on the roads including in Valencia at the 2018 World Half Marathon Championships. Gemma is selected after an excellent run of form in 2023 with podium finishes at the National Cross and Intercounties and a 26:06 clocking at the Bassingham Bash 5 Mile in August. Ellie Wallace (North Somerset, Julian Emery) gains another England vest after retaining her England 5k title in April and running a fine debut 10k in October clocking 32:49. Ellie and Gemma are joined by debutant Bryony Gunn (Birchfield Harriers, Peter Stewart) who capped a strong year with 33:11 at Leeds Abbey Dash 10k .

Jack Gray (Cambridge & Coleridge, Mark Vile) is another athlete with huge experience who gains another England vest after the finest year of his career so far - with podium finishes at the National Cross and Intercounties XC and an excellent 12th placed finish at the European 10,000m Cup in May. Gray is joined by Jacob Allen (Highgate, Steve McGowan) who is also in excellent form setting PBs over 5k and 10k in 2023 and finishing 2nd at the Great South Run in October with a stunning 47:13. Allen is joined on the team by Highgate colleague and 2022 England 10k Champion Alexander Leprêtre (David Chalfen) who ran 28:51 at the 2023 edition of the 10k Valencia Ibercaja.
