England select strong group of eight to take on Europe’s best Under 23s at Corsa dei Castelli

England Athletics is delighted to announce the eight athletes selected to represent England at the Corsa dei Castelli European Under 23 road race on 20 October in Italy. The selected men and women will compete over 10km against nations from around Europe in the beautiful coastal city of Trieste.

Women's team

After running 33:02 at the Trafford 10k in March, City of Norwich athlete, Megan Gadsby (Mick Woods), continued her fine form to run 15:57 over 5000m in August and gain selection. Megan is joined by Libby Huxley (Preston Harriers, Andy Bibby) who has demonstrated excellent form on the roads this year running 16:00 and 16:06 over 5k in April and August. Indira Patel (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, Bill Foster) had an excellent run at the England 10k Championships in December and the England 5k Championships in March. She is joined on the team by Holly Weedall (Vale Royal, Dean Miller) who has backed up her excellent 33:39 10k from December with consistent form on the roads over 5k in the last few months.

Men's team

For the men, William Aitken (Doncaster AC), gains selection after a very strong year on the track in the United States including running 29:14.44 at the Raleigh Relays in March. Another man excelling on the track this year is Matt Ramsden (Blackburn Harriers AC, Edmund Finucane) who has set personal bests of 29:45.05 and 13:48.12 in the 10k and 5k respectively so far this year. Warrington AC’s Brandon Quinton (Tom Greaves) ran a big PB of 29:44 on the roads in March and backed this up with a 5000m PB in August. He will be joined on the team by Joseph O’Connell (AFD, Mick Woods) who ran a huge PB of 14:14 at the Home Nations 5k on April - building on a strong 30:13 10k from the England Champs in December.
