England Athletics select strong team of 8 athletes to compete at the Anglo Celtic Plate 100k

We are pleased to announce a team of eight athletes selected to represent England at the Anglo Celtic Plate 100km race taking place on 24 March.

Women's team

  • Sarah Webster (Northern IOM, David Leach)
  • Melissah Gibson (Ealing Eagles)
  • Julia Davis (Newquay Road Runners, Robbie Britton)
  • Samantha Hudson dos Santos Figueira (née Amend) (Belgrave, Andrew Walling)

Men's team

  • Michael Young (West Cheshire)
  • Alex Milne (Hercules Wimbledon)
  • James Turner (Lewes AC, Allison Benton)
  • Ollie Garrod (Belgrave)

Women

After setting a European best time of 7:03 Sarah Webster (Northern, IOM) will be back to defend the title she won in spectacular fashion in the 2023 race before going on to gain a bronze medal at the World 50k Champs in India. Melissah Gibson (Ealing Eagles) is selected for her debut England vest after an excellent performance at the 2023 Comrades Marathon and setting a marathon PB of 2:40:40.

Julia Davis (Newquay Road Runners) has a marathon PB of 2:39 and brings extensive ultra experience, including for GB&NI at the 2023 World Mountain and Trail Champs. The team is completed by Samantha Hudson dos Santos Figueira (Belgrave) has represented GB&NI at 50km, 100k and 24 hours and is selected for the team after competing at the World 24-hour championships in December.

Men

The men's team sees Michael Young (West Cheshire) selected - he set a marathon PB of 2:24:33 in Valencia in December and ran a strong performances at the Chester Ultra 50 last spring. Alex Milne (Hercules Wimbledon) is selected after moving to 2nd on the UK all-time rankings for road 50km with 2:51:25 in December adding to a 2:16:30 marathon and excellent 15th place at Comrades Marathon. James Turner (Lewes) set a course record at the South Downs Way 50k and is selected after showing excellent road form with a 2:19:52 marathon in December. Experienced ultra competitor Ollie Garrod (Belgrave) completes the team. Garrod, who represented GB&NI at the 2022 World 100k Championships, also set a sparking 50km time of 2:51:26 in December.

National Endurance Manager (Off Track) Tom Craggs said:

"We are delighted to be able to select two of the strongest teams England have ever sent to the Anglo Celtic Plate. The event provides an excellent opportunity for our best ultra distance athletes to build international experience and to set strong 10k times in advance of the World 100k Championship later this year."
