England Athletics marathon champions crowned

England Athletics are delighted to announce the individual and team winners of the 2021 England Marathon Championships which took place at the 2021 London Marathon on 3 October 2021.

Charlotte Purdue (Aldershot, Farnham & District, Nic Bideau) is crowned the women’s champion after her sensational run of 2:23:26 a time which took over two minutes off her previous best and moved her to 3rd on the UK all time rankings.

In a fantastic debut performance Philip Sesemann (Leeds City, Andrew Henderson) took the men’s title running 2:12:58 to finish 7th overall and first British athlete.

Silver medals went to Rose Harvey (Clapham Chasers, Phil Kissi) who broke the 2:30 barrier for the first time running 2:29:45 to move to 25th on the UK all time rankings and Matt Leach (Bedford & County, Dena Evans) whose time of 2:15:31 took over two minutes off his previous best. Samantha Harrison (Charnwood, Vince Wilson) and Jonny Mellor (Liverpool Harriers, Steve Vernon) claimed the women’s and men’s bronze medal running 2:32:22 and 2:16:09 respectively.

Clapham Chasers and AFD claim team titles

In the team championships the women’s title as taken by Clapham Chasers with Aldershot, Farnham and District claiming the men’s title.

Clapham Chasers were led to victory by a fantastic 2:29:45 by Rose Harvey with Steph McCall (2:51:23) and Mariana Marques (2:54:28) combining to leave them with a combined time of 8:15:36. The women’s silver medal goes to London City AC with Caoimhe Nic Fhogartaigh (2:48:25), Annie Birch (2:48:42) and Angharad Smith (3:08:33) giving them a combined time of 8:45:40. City of Stoke AC took the bronze with a combined time of 8:48:01 thanks to the runs of Emma Taylor (2:47:11), Rebecca Harrison (2:56:27) and Kelly Louise Butler (3:04:23).

Aldershot, Farnham & District claimed the men’s England Championships with a combined time of 7:13:42 thanks to an excellent team performance form Joe Morwood (2:22:20), Paul Rodgers (2:25:16) and Stephen Blake (2:26:06). Thames Hare & Hounds’ team of Richard Ollington (2:24:14), Jack Blaiklock (2:24:53) and James Hoad (2:26:43) claimed the silver medal with a combined time of 7:15:50. The bronze medal went to Serpentine in a time of 7:16:11 thanks to the collective efforts for Nicholas Torry (2:18:39), Andy Greenleaf (2:28:13) and Matthew Kruger (2:29:19).

Scoring teams are made up of athletes registered with an affiliated English club wearing club vests on race day with three athletes to score.
