England Athletics interim statement on English ‘elite’ athlete status

We are working with British Athletics as quickly as possible to enable athletes defined as ‘elite’ within England to access indoor training venues in groups with their coach in a safe manner.  This will be a small extension to the numbers with a current elite designation.

The processes around ‘elite’ training are involved and require all athletes to go through an initial induction session with a doctor and subsequently be monitored on a daily basis.  All designated ‘elite’ training venues must comply with ‘elite’ Covid-19 secure requirements and ensure that these are maintained.

England Athletics are appointing a doctor and medical coordinator and setting up all the daily monitoring systems for athletes at the moment. It will take time to put these processes in place but as soon as we have we will contact athletes on the ‘elite’ athlete list with the details of what they need to do. In the interim we can highlight what training can already take place in the various tiers, for athletes over 18 years of age, as of December 4 2020, even without designated ‘elite’ athlete status.
