England athletes claim podium success in Cardiff
16 England athletes took to the paths of Bute Park, Cardiff on Saturday 24 August to take on the other Home Nations and invited teams over 5km. They claimed both team and individual placings in the process.
The senior women’s team claimed a strong third place finish with a combined time of 1:05:17, as several of the team made their debuts. Holly Dixon (Cambridge Harriers) led the charge with an excellent PB of 15:51. Top spot was taken by the Adidas team in 1:04:17 with Wales taking second in 1:04:21.
England’s senior men found themselves in an exciting race with the invited Adidas team and the team from Scotland. In the end, the England team picked up second place with a combined time of 56:13. Jack Kavanagh (Holland Sports AC) led home the team claiming individual second with a super 13:48. The Adidas team claimed top spot with 55:58 and Scotland finished third just four seconds back from England in 56:17.
England also fielded two under 20 teams, who produced some outstanding displays. The under 20 women finished in a combined 1:07:59, as India Barwell (Lincoln Wellington) was the first home in 16:30. England Under 20 men saw Tom Chandler (Aldershot Farnham & District) set a big new PB of 14:12 to lead home a combined team result of 58:24.

“Once again, the team acquitted themselves brilliantly, going head-to-head against some top domestic and international road runners. It was great to have doubled our team size this year with the addition of the under 20 teams. Well done to all the athletes and coaches involved.”
