Elliott Newell confirmed as keynote for England Athletics Jumps and Throws International Conference

We are delighted to announce that leading performance coach and sports psychologist Elliott Newell has joined an impressive line-up of confirmed keynote speakers for our Jumps and Throws International Conference on 25 & 26 March 2023, at Loughborough University.

 Newell now runs his own consultancy called The Thrive Academy having previously worked at UK Sport in the role of Senior Athlete Support Advisor.

Prior to that, he worked in the English Institute of Sport Performance Pathways team where he was responsible for a range of people development activity, including professional development programmes, symposia, and knowledge sharing.

He said:

“I am stoked to share that I am going to be part of the upcoming England Athletics Jumps and Throws International Conference.

“We all know that people aren’t just passive recipients of information. We are not empty vessels waiting to be filled with content. We filter everything that we see and hear. We make sense of information in really individualised ways and those ways are habitual and biased. The ways in which we might connect the information we hear to the problems that we face in our practise is also really individualised as are the solutions that we might propose to solve those problems.

“So, my role in this amazing conference is to make sure that we embrace that challenge and make sure that we learn as effectively as we can from the brilliant content that we’re going to receive.

“I know I am excited. The England Athletics team have done a brilliant job in putting together this event.”

The England Athletics Jumps and Throws Conference on 25 and 26 March 2023 will take place at Loughborough University and the Burleigh Court Hotel. The theme of the conference is titled, ‘Coaching the Adaptable Athlete’. As well as featuring leading practitioners as keynote speakers, the conference will include practical sessions from those in their field of expertise, looking at the development of the athlete.
