Eleanor’s Elite Experience at the National Road Weekend

SiS ‘You vs Sport’ winner trains with the best at England Athletics’ National Road Weekend.

Exeter Arena was the stage for an unforgettable endurance experience as athletes, coaches, and experts came together for the recent England Athletics National Road Weekend.

Among them was Eleanor, winner of the ‘You vs Sport’ competition, who had the unique opportunity to train alongside some of England’s top endurance athletes—thanks to our proud partner, Science in Sport (SiS).

A seasoned marathon and ultra-runner, Eleanor immersed herself in an elite training environment, gaining invaluable insights into endurance performance.

Her day kicked off with her taking to the track alongside experienced athletes to refine her pacing and race strategy.

“Running on the track alongside such incredible athletes was amazing,” Eleanor said.

“Being able to train with runners at this level and see their approach first-hand was truly inspiring. The atmosphere pushed me to dig deeper, and I’ve come away feeling more motivated than ever.”

Following her track session, Eleanor joined a series of expert-led workshops covering nutrition, physiology, sports psychology, and strength & conditioning.

She gained tailored advice on fuelling for endurance, injury prevention, and mental resilience—key factors in both marathon and ultra-distance racing.

Tom Craggs, National Endurance Manager at England Athletics, reflected on the weekend:

“It was fantastic to have Eleanor with us, and thanks to SiS, she got to experience first-hand what goes into elite endurance training. The National Road Weekend is about learning, sharing, and pushing limits, and Eleanor embraced every aspect of the day. We hope the knowledge she’s taken away will help her continue to achieve incredible things in her running journey.”

The weekend also marked another milestone in our partnership with Science in Sport, whose world-class nutrition fuels endurance athletes at every level.

Their support helped bring this opportunity to life, ensuring Eleanor had everything she needed to perform at her best throughout the day.

As Eleanor heads home with a wealth of new knowledge, we can’t wait to see how she applies what she’s learned to her future races.

Congratulations once again, Eleanor!
