Marathon & Masters Programme: Cyprus 2020 Road Running Camp - Book Now

England Athletics, in association with Sports Tours International, is delighted to offer an exclusive opportunity for England Age Group Masters and Marathon Programme athletes to experience our first Overseas Road Running Camp in March 2020.  Read on for more information including an update on the two coaches announced for the camp.

This additional development opportunity provides an excellent chance for England Marathon Programme and England Age Group Masters athletes to benefit from England Athletics coaching and training support for the duration of the camp whilst also experiencing overseas racing at the Cyprus Marathon on Sunday 15 March (5k, 10k, Half Marathon & Marathon).

Located on Cyprus’ stunning coastline, just outside the magical city of Paphos, the camp will enable athletes to access coaching advice and take part in a range of tailored workshops and running/training sessions whilst also enjoying the company of other Masters and Marathon Programme athletes. It promises to be a great experience for all involved so if you’re keen to find out more, then read on!

The road running camp is tailored for Marathon Programme and Masters representative athletes and so any athlete who meets the following criteria is welcome to attend:

  • England Age Group Masters athletes – anyone that has qualified and been invited to be an England Masters representative since Autumn 2017.
  • Marathon Programme - any athlete or coach who has been part of the Marathon Programme.

Two coaches announced for Cyprus 2020 camp

We’re excited to update that two of the coaches that will be leading sessions for our first Overseas Road Running Camp are now confirmed:

Martin Rush - Coach Martin RushMartin has many years’ experience of competing in elite-level competition as an athlete, including representing England and Great Britain at the Edinburgh 1986 Commonwealth Games and Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games. Martin is now Head of Coaching and Athlete Development at England Athletics. His role sees him take charge of coach development via the education courses as well as heading up the Athletics & Running department at England Athletics.

Spencer Duval - Coach Spencer DuvalSpencer also has significant experience of competing at the top level having represented England and Great Britain at the Victoria 1994 and Kuala Lumpur 1998 Commonwealth Games, Gothenburg 1995 World Championships and Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Spencer is now the National Endurance Lead for England Athletics so is responsible for everything to do with Endurance in England - from 800m right through to Ultra distance and everything in between on all surfaces!

Package Availability and What’s Included

The Overseas Road Running Camp offers both four-night and six-night packages (arriving 12 March and departing 16/18 March). Flights are not included so that athletes have flexibility to book flights that suit their timings and location. Package prices are also available to family members for those wanting to make a holiday out of the trip.

As well as the exclusive coaching and development activity, packages also include 4* half-board accommodation at the Athena Beach Hotel with access to hotel facilities, airport transfers, use of the local running track and the option to join an organised wine tour and/or Cyprus Wine Run1 (six-night package only).

Athletes will also be able to gain entry to the Marathon pre-event pasta party, access an exclusive finish line tent for England Athletics runners and join a celebration meal on the evening after the race (where prizes will be awarded for runners across different race categories).

Day 1: Thursday 12th March

  • Arrivals
  • PM - Dinner at night at the hotel. Welcome meeting.

Day 2: Friday 13th March

  • AM - Pre breakfast - Light shake out run (led by England Athletics coach)
  • AM – Workshop led by England Athletics (e.g. Race Day nutrition, Race plans, Race Day psychology)
  • Free time
  • PM - Optional run followed by early evening workshop led by England Athletics coach
  • PM - Dinner at the hotel
  • PM - Guest Speaker Q&A led by England Athletics

Day 3: Saturday 14th March

  • AM - Pre breakfast - Light shake out run (led by England Athletics coach)
  • AM - Workshop led by England Athletics (e.g. Race Day Nutrition, Race plans, Race Day Psychology)
  • Free time
  • PM - Optional run
  • PM - Attend the official Pasta Party. Last minute race tips.
  • PM - Free time

Day 4: Sunday 15th March

  • 07.30 - Logicom Cyprus Marathon
  • 08.30 - Half Marathon
  • 08.45 - 10k
  • 09:00 - 5k Fun Run
  • There will be a dedicated tent at the finish for the England Athletics runners that will have fruit and water.
  • Free time
  • PM - Celebration meal in the evening with prize giving.

Day 5: Monday 16th March

  • Breakfast
  • AM - Departures OR optional run followed by
    Paphos Wine Tour including lunch and archaeological visit
  • PM - optional run followed by workshop led by England Athletics coach (e.g. planning your next race, Goal Setting, Training Plans)
  • PM - Dinner at night at the hotel

Day 6: Tuesday 17th March

  • Breakfast
  • 10:00 - Cyprus Wine Run1
  • PM - Afternoon workshop led by England Athletics coach (e.g. Planning your next race, Goal Setting, Training Plans)
  • PM - Dinner at the hotel
