Boyek and Axford Crowned UK and England Athletics One Mile Road Champions in London

Cameron Boyek (Morpeth Harriers & AC) and Kate Axford (Belgrave Harriers) were crowned England Athletics and UK Athletics One Mile Road Champions at the BMC Bannister Mile, held as part of the Vitality Westminster Mile in London on Saturday.

The championship race formed the final wave of the day as athletes raced around St James’s Park before finishing in front of Buckingham Palace.

Men's race

In a stunning finish to the men's championship race, Boyek passed Tom Dodd (Birchfield Harriers) in the final few metres to win in 4:02. With Alex Melloy (Cambridge & Coleridge AC) crossing the line in third close behind.

Women's race

The women's race saw Axford deliver a commanding run with her winning time of 4:23 matching the women's course record and secured both the overall race win and the UK Athletics and England Athletics One Mile Road titles. Last year's winner, Holly Dixon (Cambridge Harriers), took second place with Isabella Harrison (Hercules Wimbledon AC) finishing in third.
