Athletes to take to the streets of Manchester for Commonwealth Games Marathon Trial

This weekend's Therme Manchester Marathon will see athletes competing in the trial race for the chance to represent England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The race is also hosting the British Athletics marathon trial for the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich and the British Athletics 50k trial for the 2022 European 50k Championships in Avila, Spain.

England Athletics have worked in partnership with race organiser, Human Race, to deliver the elite race which sees over 100 athletes set to line up across the elite A and B field. The elite athletes will race at the head of a mass field of over 24,000 runners. Volunteers from clubs across the north west will be playing an essential role in ensuring runners have a wonderful day, from marshalling to drinks stations and much more.

Road Running Manager and Marathon Lead Tom Craggs said;

It's been a big effort from all involved and a great example of partnership working between England Athletics, British Athletics, Human Race, commercial sponsors, club volunteers, elite athletes, and coaches.

There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes from organising the elite drinks, to the warmup area, to the pacers and start and finish line arrangements. I am grateful to the support of Human Race and the many of our members who have offered their time and expertise to support in the build up and on race day.

The elite field is looking very strong, and I am excited to see the athletes compete for their chance in be in Birmingham. Good luck to all competing.

The 2022 Therme Manchester Marathon takes place on Sunday 3 April starting at 9am.
