Age Group changes: transition plan update

The Home Country Athletics Federations (HCAFs) are today releasing further key pieces of information on how the Age Group changes will be implemented when they come into effect in 2026.

This information includes the technical details related to each age group, including the specifications of throwing implements, maximum and recommended race distances on and off the track, and hurdle heights and race distances.

Also included are key principles relating to transition arrangements, rankings and records and important information for competition providers.

Further updates to this document, principally relating to throwing events, para athletics and some off track disciplines will be issued in due course and communicated to clubs, coaches and competition providers at that point in time.

As part of their ongoing commitment to ensuring that the implementation of the changes work effectively for all those involved, the HCAFs and the Implementation Task Group are inviting feedback on the plan from everyone within the sport.

The window for providing feedback will remain open throughout September, October and November ahead of a planned competition providers’ forum in December 2024.

Webinars for competition providers will also be held in early November 2024 and a survey will be made available for competition providers shortly.

All contributions will be taken into account as the Implementation Task Group finalise the plans across the second half of this year and any competition providers wishing to discuss the changes directly are invited to arrange individual meetings should they so wish.
