A winter of opportunities at Cross Country with the ECCA

This winter there will once again be a series of opportunities for athletes to represent England at Cross Country with the English Cross Country Association, and in a new initiative a number of coaches who are part of the England Athletics coach development programme will also attend to gain experience of international events.

Spencer Duval, National Coach Mentor Lead- Endurance, said, “It is great to be working with the ECCA again this winter as they offer invaluable opportunities for athletes at cross country.
“As well as their national cross country and cross country relay championships these international’s give athletes the honour of representing their country in a number of fixtures through the winter.
“We will once again be providing the England Athletics New Balance team kit for those representing England and are very pleased to be able to offer these new opportunities for coaches by working in partnership with the ECCA.”

This winter’s fixtures are:

13/11/16 Cross de Atapuerca, Spain

Senior Men’s and Women’s teams of 4 plus Junior Men’s and Women’s teams of 4 will also be taken to this IAAF Permit event. Selection will be mainly on known form and form during Road Relay season, latest date for selection 28th October 2016.

18/12/16 Brussels Iris CrossCup, Belgium

Senior Men’s and Women’s teams of 4 plus Junior Men’s and Women’s teams of 4 will also be taken to this IAAF Permit event. Selection will be based on Liverpool trial event but none of the GB Team running in the European Champs will be included, latest date for selection 12th December 2016.

22/1/17 Elgoibar, Spain

Senior Men’s and Women’s teams of 4 plus Junior Men’s and Women’s teams of 4 will also be taken to this IAAF Permit event. Selection based on Liverpool trial event / current form and county champs. latest date for selection 24th December 2016.

12/2/17 Caceres, Spain (To be confirmed)

Senior Men’s and Women’s teams of 4 plus Junior Men’s and Women’s teams of 4 will also be taken to this IAAF Permit event. Selection based on current form up to and including area champs XC. Latest date for selection 28th January 2017.

25/3/17 Home Countries Cross Country International, Wales

Senior Men’s and Women’s teams of 4 plus Junior Men’s and Women’s teams of 4 will be selected for this event. Selection will be offered to the top 4 in each of the Senior Men’s, Senior Women’s, Junior Men’s and Junior Women’s events at the National Cross Country Championships and if any decline then selection will be offered to the next person and so on. However, this cannot happen until after the World XC Team is selected in March.
