It is the vision of England Athletics and funetics to grow capacity in track and field athletics clubs and other community settings and to deliver high quality ‘run jump throw’ activity to improve physical literacy and the first experience of the sport amongst 4-11 year olds.
We want to help children of all backgrounds and abilities to flourish and reach their full potential. We need to create opportunities within flexible settings for children and young people to find our sport and, from there, sustain their participation in the sport.
The philosophy of funetics is very much built around all year activity both indoors and outdoors, our community offer enables providers to establish themselves in a variety of settings, not just athletic tracks, we encourage our partners to utilise community venues such as Leisure, Community and Youth Venues, Parks and Open Spaces and accessing local school sites and their playgrounds
Commonwealth Games Legacy support to communities
England Athletics’ funetics programme is helping local people and communities to get active and play sport off the back of the Commonwealth Games thanks to funding and support from Sport England and the National Lottery.
Aimed at local athletics clubs, organisations, groups (faith, uniformed) and local operators who are respected and embedded within Birmingham and beyond; our vision is to super charge local delivery by empowering local communities to launch their own funetics programme at a venue, time and location to suit their communities’ needs.
We provide training, equipment, resources, and ongoing support – providing confidence, competence and aspiration for local community members to engage at a hyper-local level.
We want to dispel the myth that all athletics needs to be delivered in formal athletic settings. Our community offer allows partners to deliver in local settings such as parks, open spaces, leisure, community, or faith settings.
We understand that naturally gifted athletes will be found, and so, we will always have local athletics track and field clubs within 25 minute's walk time wherever possible to signpost these athletes to.
Athletics holiday camps in the community
Our expert coaches supported by funetics leaders, deliver funetics Holiday camps either in our affiliated athletics clubs, via our community partners or via our own Holiday Camps led by the funetics delivery team.
In certain areas, funding is available to cover the costs of Holiday scheme delivery, the most common of which is the Holiday Activity Fund (HAF) grant
We promote each term's holiday camps a couple of months before they start as they will vary in location and number. But every holiday camp will adhere to our guiding principles: safe, encouraging, rewarding, developmental, child-centred and fun.
