Steve Backley confirmed for England Athletics International Jumps and Throws Conference

Sporting great Steve Backley is the latest stellar name to join the list of speakers for our International Jumps and Throws Conference on 25 & 26 March 2023, at Loughborough University.

To secure your place now at the Conference, themed ‘Coaching the Adaptable Athlete’, either as a delegate attending in person or as an online delegate, visit our conference page. Please note places are limited, therefore, we advise those wanting to attend should sign-up early to avoid disappointment.

One of the most consistent and successful athletes of the golden era, with three Olympic medals at consecutive Games and 13 major championship medals, Steve Backley is also Britain's first athlete to win four European titles in a row. A former world-record holder, he still holds the British record for javelin, a discipline he turned to after initially starting out in athletics as a cross-country and middle distance runner. He made the world top 10 every year from 1989 to 2004 and has been world number one on three occasions.

Backley will deliver a workshop where he will present his thoughts on what makes a good javelin thrower and will combine biomechanics, physical and psychology attributes.

The second session will be a practical session which will show how he feels coaches could develop those attributes with the athletes they coach.
