An interactive online development programme for club leaders within England Athletics affiliated clubs
England Athletics are investing in our affiliated club network to develop safe, sustainable and successful clubs, with excellent leadership and governance, providing enjoyable opportunities for people to participate and excel.
To aid this we are offering a Club Development Season – available to those currently holding leadership positions within clubs, and to those with aspirations to move into a club leadership position in the future.
The programme starts in January 2023 and consists of a series of online training webinars, panel discussions, networking opportunities and access to resources via our ClubHub. Throughout the programme, experts within their respective fields will be joining us to impart their knowledge and ideas, and to facilitate networking between clubs and club leaders.

Joining the programme
Each session has a booking link and these are listed on Athletics Hub.
There are a number of sessions with limited numbers available and these are highlighted on the booking information. Places will be offered on a first come first serve basis. If spaces are listed as full – please register your interest on our waiting list below.
Sessions are aimed at members of clubs who hold a current club leadership position of Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Trustee, Director, President or Committee member. Sessions are also ideal for individuals lined up for a leadership role in the coming years. This is a fantastic personal development opportunity for club volunteers.

Inclusion Matters Workshop
On the theme of supporting athletes from different backgrounds, we will hear perspectives from our panel, to help give you tips and confidence to provide a more inclusive experience. We will also discuss the role everyone can play to ensure the diverse backgrounds and perspectives within your club are represented.
Effective Committees Training Webinar**
We will share a range of tools for structuring your meetings, highlight how to ensure inclusivity and maintain engagement levels throughout, and identify strategies for dealing with challenging meeting participants.

Introduction to the myAthletics Portal
Introduction to the myAthletics portal aimed at Club Secretaries and Membership Secretaries. We will cover the following in addition to other basic functionality:
- Adding members and managing your club member details
- Setting up online payments and collecting club membership fees and England Athletics registration fees
- Communicating with your members
Female Leadership in Sport
We will be joined by our panel to discuss their view on Female Leadership in Sport. We will discuss their career, areas of work they have been involved with and how the culture within sport in general has changed across the years.
We welcome clubs to share their experience with the group on the evening.
Club Standards Webinar Two
Following on from Club Standards Webinar 1, Club Support Managers Chris & Rich will be available for a Q&A style session on Club Standards. We will be available to answer any burning questions ahead of affiliation a few weeks later.
Managing and Creating Change Webinar**
This webinar will focus on sharing a range of strategies for getting buy-in and support from volunteers to help manage and create change to further develop your club. We will explore how to manage your level of influence during change, how best to support existing volunteers and those who may show reluctance to changes as well as how we can adapt communication styles to get the best out of each other.

Values in Leadership
With special guest Jim Buckle.
We will be joined by Jim Buckle, Non-Executive Director, EA and Chief Financial Officer for food company Gousto. Jim has a number of various digital retail company executive experiences and is also trustee of St Mary’s Athletic Club in London and manages their cross-country team.
Jim will share his experiences of working in a diverse range of companies which have shaped his leadership career. He will discuss the importance of relatable values and a positive culture to create a welcoming and happy organisation.
Valuing Your Volunteers
This session will share positive examples of what clubs have implemented to reward and retain their volunteer workforce. Clubs will be able to network with each other to share ideas on how to make new volunteers feel welcomed and valued

Club Development Season Launch — Wednesday 11 January 2023, 7-8pm
With special guests Jo Pavey & Sophie McKinna.
We will be joined by special guests Jo Pavey & Sophie McKinna on our Panel discussing their experience from beginning athletics, throughout their career to present day. We will explore the culture, values and support they have received from their club.
We also welcome a number of our Regional Volunteer Awards winners to discuss the culture in their clubs and how they make good first impressions and retain their members.
Club Standards Webinar One — Monday 16 January 2023, 6.30-8pm
Club Support Managers Chris & Heidi will provide an overview of Club Standards providing the background to what the standards are and why they are in place. We will provide an overview of progress to date since the introduction nearly a year ago.
We will hear from one of our Clubs who have used Club Standards to shape their vision and values and share their experience of how this has been implemented.
Club Leadership Training Webinar — Monday 23 January and Wednesday 25 January 2023
We will start to look at what make a great leader and good leadership within a voluntary club setting. We will discuss how to utilise your club vision and values and you will leave with a range of practical actions to develop individual and collective leadership within your club.
