New safeguarding procedures announced

We, along with UK Athletics (UKA) and the other Home Country Athletics Federations, have today (Monday 14 June) launched the new safeguarding policies and procedures set to bring heightened levels of safeguarding expertise and improve processes throughout the sport across the UK.

The launch of these documents marks the fulfilment of the six core recommendations of the Christopher Quinlan Safeguarding review and supports us with the implementation of new procedures at a grassroots level.

Over the coming year, we will work with and support our member clubs and grassroots bodies to ensure the sport is safe and welcoming for everybody who wishes to become involved.

These new polices and procedure along with the development work with our members clubs on Club Standards will help ensure our sport is ready for the future. Click here for more information on the new policies and procedures.

Emma Davenport, Head of Clubs and Participation at England Athletics, said:

The launch of our new safeguarding procedures is a key development. Over the coming year, we will work with UK Athletics and the other Home Countries to implement the new safeguarding policies and procedures and will look to support our member clubs and grassroots bodies to ensure the sport is safe and welcoming for everyone.

Chris Jones, Chief Executive Officer at England Athletics, said:

Everyone at England Athletics welcomes the new policies and procedures and look forward to working collectively with UKA and the other Home Country Athletics Federations to ensure people are kept safe and are welcomed in our sport.

Last month, following extensive consultation with a multitude of stakeholders across the sport, we launched our new 12-year strategic plan for 2021-2032: Athletes and runners at the heart – creating opportunities, enhancing experiences and powering potential. It provides us, as the membership and development body for athletics and running in England, with a renewed sense of purpose to inspire more athletes and runners of all abilities and backgrounds to fulfil their potential and have a lifelong love for the sport.
