Clarification on ground maintenance work during coronavirus shutdown

The Sport & Recreation Alliance have sought clarification on whether ground maintenance work is classified as essential and therefore could workers be allowed to continue (relevant to clubs/venues who are concerned about facility upkeep during the shutdown period).

The update, from the Sport & Recreation Alliance CEO Lisa Wainwright (dated 2 April 2020), reads:

"During my weekly catch-up with the Sports Minister and other sector stakeholders this afternoon, I sought clarification on whether ground maintenance work is classified as essential and therefore could workers be allowed to continue.

We were informed that as long as social distancing regulations are adhered to and due regard for health and safety is followed, work that is essential to that space and cannot be done at home is acceptable and in this situation ground maintenance staff would be allowed to continue in their roles."
