Update on the England U20/U23 Championships at Bedford International Stadium

The 2021 England Under-20 and Under-23 Track and Field Championships are due to take place at the Bedford International Stadium on 19-20 June.

Information will be sent to all registered attendees prior to the Championships which will be run in strict accordance with COVID-19 procedures and protocols:

As was the case with the England Senior and U20 Combined Events Championships held at the same stadium in May, all registered participants will be required to take a COVID-19 rapid lateral flow test and provide evidence on arrival at the venue that their test has returned a negative result. In conjunction with Bedford Borough Council and Bedford International Stadium, England Athletics considers the safety of all those participating including, athletes, coaches, technical officials, volunteers, event and venue staff as well as the Bedford community is of paramount importance.

Scottish government-imposed travel restrictions

As at 3 June, the Scottish Government has imposed restrictions on travel between Scotland and three specific English local authority areas – including Bedford – meaning Scottish athletes (Scotland based) cannot legally travel to compete at the U20 and U23 Championships.

England Athletics has worked with Scottish Athletics and British Athletics to manage the implications in relation to European Age Group Championship selection.

• British Athletics will take account of the legal inability of Scottish athletes (Scotland based) to compete at Bedford in the selection procedures for the European U20 and U23 Championships. Click here for more information.
• If these travel restrictions from Scotland to Bedford are lifted prior to Friday 11 June, England Athletics will select athletes as detailed here. England Athletics will leave open the places for Scottish athletes in the ‘ranking positions’ as of Sunday 6 June until Friday 11 June.
• If Scottish athletes cannot legally take up places by Friday 11 June, England Athletics will cascade the places to other athletes with the qualifying performances, if there are any.

Please note these travel restrictions do not apply to Scottish athletes residing in England or any of the other Home Countries.
