Statement: Road Race suspension in England extended to end of July 2020

England Athletics, working with runbritain, can confirm that the suspension of licensed road races in England has been extended until at least the end of July 2020.

We have collectively decided to extend the suspension of activity specific to road race events due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and in line with guidance from UK government in relation to social distancing and restrictions on the number of people permitted to meet in groups.

As a result of this announcement, any road race that was licensed in England for the period to 31 July 2020 should be postponed or cancelled. However, race organisers seeking to reschedule their race for a later date should note that runbritain can use the existing licence with the new date assuming that nothing has changed regarding the race set up and that the race organiser has local authority approval. This applies to races being carried over to next year.

Race organisers wishing to re-schedule a race should contact glightwood@uka.org.uk but please note that, as there are a large number of race events moving their dates, there is potential for fixture clashes. Race organisers should therefore check that medical cover, officials, volunteers, timing services and other event services will be available for the proposed new date of the race.

We thank all road race organisers, clubs, runners, coaches, officials and volunteers for their cooperation and understanding during this difficult period. Any race organisers with any queries or concerns should please contact glightwood@uka.org.uk
