RunTogether Satellite Clubs

The Satellite Club programme for 2018-2019 is giving England Athletics affiliated clubs the opportunity to apply for a package of support, to encourage more young people aged between 14-25 to start or become more physically active through running.

The Satellite Club programme provides affiliated clubs with a fantastic opportunity to not only assist young people getting fitter, healthier and involved in athletics, but also to increase the number of leaders and coaches at the club and help with their longer-term development.

The launch of RunTogether in January 2017 has led to a growth in social running; over 1,545 groups are now using the leader resources including their own website, runners online registration, support of a Run Leader Mentor and being able to update session registers via a phone app. Some groups are run by affiliated clubs to offer beginners or ‘the more social runners’ the opportunity to participate at leader-led sessions.

RunTogether groups are able to be set up by any licensed Leaders in Running Fitness (LIRF), Running (CiRF) or Athletics Coaches (AC), and are able to run leader-led sessions for attendees 12 years and over.

You may have links locally to Schools and Colleges who would be interested in having an after school running club, your club may support a local community race or event and introduce a course to help the young people train in advance or your may want to develop a junior section of your road running club for over 12s.

Funding and support (up to £550 per club) is available to successful clubs. For more information please see the accompanying guidelines and application form which you can download from the right of this page (or below on if you are on a phone or tablet).

If you already operate a Satellite Club for junior athletes at your club and wish to discuss support needed for your club, please contact your local Club Support Manager – runtogether.co.uk
