England Athletics select strong Under 20 team for Cardiff 5k

England Athletics are delighted to announce a strong team of eight athletes to compete at the Cardiff 5k on 1 May.

The under 20 team will compete against a Welsh Athletics under 20 team, Welsh Athletics senior team, senior Area teams, and an armed forces team.

Jasmine Young achieved automatic selection after finishing as the first eligible under 20 on the long leg at the ERRA National Road Relays in April combined with meeting. The selection standards with a 9:54 3000m earlier in the month. Samuel Hodgson was the first eligible under 20 on the long leg at the ERRA National Road Relays and achieved automatic selection with an 8:43 3000m earlier in the month. The final automatic selection went to Ellen Donald was the first eligible under 20 on the short leg at the ERRA National Road Relays combined a qualification standard set over 5km in March.

Thomas Bridger is selected after running 14:28 at the Podium 5km in March backed up by a fine performance for stage three at the Southern Road Relays later in the month. Rowan Miell-Ingram ran 8:25.88 to finish 5th at the 2021 English Schools' 3000m and has demonstrated excellent form in 2022 with a 4th place finish at the English Schools' XC Champs and top 10 finish at the Inter-counties XC. James Wardle is selected after running 14:38 over 5000m and 8:38 over 3000m 2021 with consistent cross country performances in 2022.

Louise Hackett has made an excellent start to 2022 won the English Schools' Cross Country title in March and topping the under 20 1500m rankings in addition to her qualification standard set over 3000m at the 2021 English Schools' Championships. Ellen Weir set a selection standard when running 16:34 over 5000m at the BMC Grand Prix in Watford in 2021 and has started 2022 in excellent form with 2nd place finishes a the Inter-counties XC and the National Cross Country Championships.
