Athletics legends reveal their sporting heroes

Olympic, Paralympic, and Commonwealth Games medallists David Weir CBE, Greg Rutherford MBE, Jason Gardener MBE, and Tony Jarrett have revealed which athletes inspired them when they were growing up.

The awesome foursome, who all enjoyed glittering athletics careers themselves, cited famous names including Daley Thompson and Linford Christie as being their first sporting heroes.

Weir, Rutherford, Gardener, and Jarrett where speaking to us as part of their backing for Journey to 2022 – our celebration of the Commonwealth Games taking place in Birmingham this summer.

The multi-medal winners also took a trip down memory lane to talk about their first competition as young aspiring track and field athletes.
