Regional Volunteer Awards 2025
As a sport we are indebted to the volunteers that make athletics and running happen.
The Regional Volunteer Awards are organised in partnership with Regional Councils and provide an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our sport up and down the country.
Why nominate?
The Regional Volunteer Awards are here to highlight the invaluable work carried out by volunteers who are often under-appreciated and don’t get the recognition they deserve. Thanking volunteers can be so powerful and we have seen how much this has meant to volunteers and their loved ones in previous years.
Our sport wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our volunteers, and we would like to use the awards to thank them for all the time and effort they give to athletics and running. We encourage you to submit a nomination to highlight those who have positively impacted you, friends, family, the local community, students, colleagues, club members, etc.
What makes a good nomination?Volunteer Award categories 2025
Club Volunteer of the Year
This category is about celebrating a club volunteer’s achievements over the last 12 months. We want to celebrate the club volunteers that make our sport happen and highlight the impact they have had on their club, the key achievements from the past 12 months and learn about what makes them an invaluable member of your club.
This award is to recognise a member of an England Athletics affiliated club who has been in a volunteering role for a minimum of 3 years. These roles could include a club committee member, a member of the club steering group and/or a hard-working unsung volunteer at your club. This category is all about rewarding the volunteers who make our sport happen.
Club of the Year
The Club of the Year award is here to celebrate outstanding affiliated clubs, with a focus on clubs that have strived to improve over the last 12 months. For example, showcasing strong club governance, demonstrating what they are doing to improve member experience and ensuring the club is inclusive in its approach.
The nominations can also explore the role clubs are playing around athlete development, creating a first-class training environment, and how the club are going above and beyond to provide a great member experience. You may also want to consider highlighting good practices around sustainability. Through this category we want to celebrate clubs’ major achievements over the last year.
If your club is doing great work in the community, why not submit a nomination in the Community Project of the Year Award?
Community Project of the Year
This award provides affiliated clubs, RunTogether groups and associated partners the opportunity to celebrate projects or activities they have been involved in that have benefitted the community.
This award is about more than athletics and running – it is about championing how much those involved in our sport care about others.
Through this category we want to celebrate all the good things that athletics and running does for the community. This award allows us to recognise projects and ongoing activities such as:
- Raising funds for charitable causes (this can include donations from club events or races).
- Increasing awareness of important initiatives
- Supporting individuals and/or deprived areas (for example, food bank runs).
- Improving facilities within the community.
- Improving accessibility and providing support for people with disabilities.
- Connecting with different groups across the community (for example, youth groups, local schools, other sports clubs, charities, respite services.
Inspiring Official of the Year
Officials are so important to our sport. Without the contributions of officials, athletes wouldn’t be able to enjoy competing in athletics and running week in week out. This award is an opportunity to thank officials who make our licenced competitions happen.
This award is for all licenced officials and celebrates excellence across officiating.
Examples of potential nominations could include:
- Celebrating experienced officials or new aspiring officials.
- Highlighting the dedication and commitment an individual has shown.
- Those who have officiated at key events.
- An official who has gone above and beyond (this could include the number of events they have officiated at, taking on the responsibilities of overseeing an event or how they have supported other officials, volunteers and athletes).
Coach of the Year
This award celebrates the importance of coaching and how it improves the athlete and club experience, as well as highlight the commitment and time coaches provide on a voluntary basis to help athletes and clubs.
This category is for coaches that hold a valid England Athletics coaching licence and have a minimum qualification of Level 2, CIRF or Athletics Coach. This award is open to coaches volunteering in road running and track & field settings, and nominations will be purely based on voluntary work.
Newcomer to Volunteering
Is there a new volunteer at your club who is making a BIG difference?! If so, this is the category to celebrate their achievements.
To be eligible for this award, the volunteer needs to be a member of an England Athletics affiliated club and either NEW to volunteering in the last 3 years or NEW to volunteering at your club within the last 3 years. Any voluntary role can be considered for this category.
Through this category we want to celebrate young people taking steps into volunteering, athletes giving back to their club, parents/guardians helping at club nights and all the new volunteers within clubs who have put their hand up to help.
Services to Athletics and Running
This is our lifetime achievement category and an opportunity to recognise the long-standing volunteers who play a vital role in making our sport what it is today.
This award celebrates volunteers who have been involved for a minimum of 15 years and have had a huge impact on running, athletics, clubs, and the local community. It is an opportunity to thank some truly remarkable volunteers who have committed a large part of their lives to athletics and running.
