Latest podcast - Phil Sesemann on juggling athletics with a career as a junior doctor

Episode #21 of the England Athletics podcast: In our latest episode you will hear a chat with international distance runner Phil Sesemann, who combines athletics with working as a junior doctor in an accident and emergency department in Leeds.

Phil, who won a silver medal in the 3000m at the British Athletics Indoor Championships earlier this year, talks about what the hospital environment has been like during the coronavirus pandemic and how pleased he has been to see widespread public support for the NHS.

Alongside that, there is the disappointment that his goal of running the European Championships standard will have to wait, but there is plenty of encouragement to take from recent improvements along with the flexibility offered to him by health bosses and coach Andy Henderson.

Meanwhile, Chris Jones has visited Peterborough and Nene Valley Athletics Club to learn more about their success since merging to form one club last year, and to see how they are managing the impact of coronavirus restrictions on track and field activity.
