In the 11th year of these awards, we are inviting you to tell us the inspiring story of a volunteer you know. The Volunteer Awards 2018 are our chance to celebrate and recognise the unsung heroes amongst all of our volunteers in the Athletics and Running community - but we need your help to say 'thank you' to all those people it can't happen without.
DW Fitness First - the UK's leading gym and retail company - have become our Official Retail and Fitness partner, as well as the lead partner for RunTogether. To celebrate the this partnership, Olympian Jenny Meadows will be our special guest with opportunities for QA at the DW Sports Fitness in St Helens on 7 June and in Newcastle on 18 July.
Bangor University, supported by England Athletics, are looking for athletes in the North West of England who are aged 18-35 with 8 years' experience of sprinting to take part in a research study into reaction times. The research is into reaction times and deaf athletes, but as part of it they need to also test hearing athletes.
Two steeplechase workshops will be taking place in the North West in the coming months. A session on steeplechase technique and session guidance will be delivered by with Stuart Stokes and Helen Clitheroe in Preston on 22nd April, and a session on fuctional strength for steeplechase - deliverd by Trevor Painter and Helen Clitheroe will take place in Wigan on 13th May.
Our Team Spirit Champions session are now underway and helping clubs develop the best ways to attract volunteers, and of ensuring their volunteers have an enjoyable and effective involvement in the sport. St Helens Sutton AC's RunTogether group Sutton Beginners took part in one of this year's 140+ #RunAndTalk organised runs. And they were lucky enough to be joined by Jenny Meadows during one of their weekly RunTogether group sessions.
Before Christmas, we held pilot sessions for our brand-new Team Spirit Champions training. These free, fast-paced, interactive sessions will send you back to your club with plenty of ideas to bring bigger smiles to the faces of the people that make our sport happen: you, the volunteers! British Athletics, in partnership with the Home Country Athletics Federations, has completed a review of the Coach Qualifications Pathway. As a result, and following pilot courses run last year, an improved Athletics Coach Award is being launched.
This winter England Athletics is delivering a series of workshops available to coaches working at all levels, across all event groups. Many coaches have already attended events and you can get involved to help develop your coaching and help your athletes to get more from the sport.
