The Commonwealth Games provides an amazing opportunity for English athletes to compete at the highest level for their country, and we are pleased to see the Games return to the UK, following the huge success of Birmingham 2022.

2026 will provide a unique opportunity for athletes to potentially compete in two major competitions within the UK, with the Birmingham 2026 European Championships taking place shortly after the Commonwealth Games, bringing an exciting summer of athletics to England.

Team information for 2026

Commonwealth Games England has officially informed us that our athlete allocation for the England track and field team at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games will be 58, in addition to our para-athletes, who will follow an invitation process for selection.

England Athletics intend to nominate the maximum number of athletes, based on the number of team places made available by Commonwealth Games England, with the aim of securing the maximum number of medal placings.

England Athletics and Commonwealth Games England are pleased to announce the Athletics and Para Athletics Selection Policies for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. These policies detail the criteria England Athletics will use to nominate athletes to Commonwealth Games England for ratification.

Update relating to the 2026 Commonwealth Games - Long List information for the Games

England Athletics have been advised that any English eligible athletes with or very close to a Commonwealth Games standard and any para-athletes close to a top 7 ranking for the Games who are wishing to be considered for selection for next year’s Commonwealth Games must complete the Team England Games Registration forms by no later than Friday 19 December 2025.

  • Athletes (both Para and non-Para) currently on the Long List.
  • Athletes on the Long List who have already received your Plus1% portal login details, you must complete your portal information in full by no later than Friday 19 December 2025.
  • Athletes who not been contacted and feel they should be on the Long List, please complete the Long List Consideration Form as a matter of urgency. This form will close on Wednesday 17 December 2025.

Athletes who have not completed this information prior to the deadline cannot be considered for selection for the Games under CGF rules.
