Update to Commonwealth Games Athletics Selection Policy

After an extensive internal review and in consultation with Team England and the UKA Athlete Commission, England Athletics has made some updates to the Commonwealth Games Athletics Selection Policy.

These changes have been made to ensure full transparency and to reflect what athletes will be required to demonstrate to be considered for nomination to the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

England Athletics and Team England are committed to ensure that the Selection Policy and selection process reflects the main aims of:

  • Selecting a team to achieve the highest possible number of medals at the Games for Team England
  • Nominating the maximum team size
  • Providing aspirational standards for England Athletics athletes

All changes from the previous published version of the policy are highlighted in yellow. Please note that no changes have been made to the qualifying standards.

England Athletics is also pleased to confirm that thanks to the support of Team England we have managed to increase the number of places on the team from 58 to 60, providing a further two athletes the opportunity to compete at the Commonwealth Games.
