U15/U17 Indoor Combined Event Championships and Indoor Junior Para Championships: preview
After the senior and under-20 combined-eventers gathered in Sheffield, now it’s the turn of the best under-17 and under-15 all-rounders and para athletes to contest for England titles on 8-9 March. There will also be a series of 200m to 800m Masters races.
Among those combined eventers entered are Molly Mills, Jasmine Nkoso, Oliver Downs and Murray Taylor, who have all been winners at these championships before.
Under-17 women’s pentathlon
Molly Mills (Jessica Taylor-Jemmett, Sale Harriers Manchester) headed the under-17 heptathlon rankings last year when she won the English Schools' title. She also won silver in the England championships outdoors and will be a good bet to add to her pair of England titles as an under-15.
Gracie Osman (Andrew Fisher, Winchester) was fourth here last year - one place behind Mills - and is another contender.
Jasmine Nkoso (Anthony Mayhew, Herne Hill), who won the under-15 England titles indoors and outdoors in 2024, has already notched up a heptathlon this winter, amassing 3503 to go to fourth on last year’s UK indoor rankings for under-17s. Likewise, Carys Francis (Craig Pounder, City of Nork) and Elisia Chilvers (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow) have put in scores over 3300 this season. Milana Thorpe (Simon Hemmings, Chelmsford) lines up as one of the top 10 heptathletes in the age group last year.
Under-17 men’s heptathlon
Oliver Downs (Alex Pope, Invicta East Kent), who was second in the decathlon at England level in his first season as an under-17 last summer, is chasing gold. He will be hoping to follow on from his win in the England under-15 decathlon a couple of years ago.
Also prominent should be Scottish athletes Douglas Knox and Nathan Mobbs, who took gold and silver at their national championships. Their scores of 4893 and 4790 there would likely be enough to put them in contention here. Edward Moore (Wirral), who was fifth in the England under-17 decathlon last year and was eighth on the national octathlon rankings, is another contender.
Jacob Earle (Mark Bradford, City of Salisbury) should improve markedly on his 19th of last year, having placed seventh at the English Schools' last year and made big advances in three disciplines on opening his 2025 account.
Scotland’s Murray Taylor, who won the under-15 pentathlon here last year, steps up an age group.
Winner of the silver medal in the England octathlon outdoors, Caleb Greene (Marie Bennett, Cheltenham) is also entered.
Under-15 girls’ pentathlon
Dionne Maguinness, who went to ninth on the UK all-time list with 3433 to win the Scottish title last month, heads the 2025 rankings and the entry list. Wales’ Lily Parsons is next best on PBs with 2882, ahead of Juliette Macquin-Jones (Craig Pounder, City of York) on 2815.
Under-15 boys’ pentathlon
Top on PBs is Jack Ruby (Alex Pope, Blackheath & Bromley) won at the Southern Championships with 2766, which would have been good enough for third here last year. He was also eighth at the England Championships outdoors last year. Also in the entries is Emil Friedrich (Dale Garland, Guernsey AC), who scored 2689 outdoors last year. Joe Moss (Joe McColgan, Amber Valley & Erewash) is next best, having amassed 2534 last summer.
Para and Masters events
England title events for para athletes in the under-20 and under-15 categories will again be part of the programme on day one, while a series of masters races over 200m and 800m has been introduced for Sunday.
T20 athlete Elliott Griffiths (Mike Holmes, Liverpool Harriers) and T38 Elizabeth Dodds (Shrewsbury) are back having each won 60m and long jump in the under-20s last year. Griffiths won the 60m 12 months ago in 7.83, which was a PB he has reduced by four hundredths this season.
