Take the opportunity to shape our sport
With less than a week of the nominations window to go, athletics enthusiasts are urged to take your opportunity to ‘shape our sport’ by applying to be a Regional Councillor.
Regional Councils are a crucial part of our structure, and act as the local representative bodies of athletics and running in England. Elected councillors within each region therefore have the opportunity to help shape the sport for benefit of their clubs and members, both now and in the future.
Here’s England Council Chair, Matthew Dalton, on why those with a passion for our sport should apply:
In total, there are 38 positions up for election across our nine Regional Councils, with the deadline for nominations 24 February 2025, and any necessary ballot processes to follow.
The vacancies are broken down by region in the following way:
- East = 4
- East Midlands = 6
- London = 4
- North East = 4
- North West = 4
- South East = 6
- South West = 1
- West Midlands = 3
- Yorkshire and Humberside = 6
What the role entails
It is vital, therefore, that our Regional Councils are made up of councillors with passion and enthusiasm for the sport, boasting good communication and engagement skills, along with the ability and knowledge to fairly represent the athletics and running community within their region.
