Sign your club or running group up for Let's Lift the Curfew 2026

This autumn, England Athletics is once again supporting Let's Lift the Curfew, the national movement from Sport England’s This Girl Can that shines a light on the challenges many women face when being active outdoors after dark.

When the clocks go back on Sunday 25 October 2026, darker evenings will once again affect how many women choose to get active. Something as simple as heading out for a run, walk or jog can involve extra planning, changing routes, running at different times, or deciding not to go at all because of safety concerns.

As runners, we know the benefits of being active outdoors. Everyone should feel able to enjoy those benefits all year round, without feeling that shorter days and darker evenings limit their opportunities to get out and move.

This is why we're encouraging clubs, RunTogether groups and running communities across England to take part in Let's Lift the Curfew 2026. Register your Let's Lift the Curfew run with us to light up the streets right across England.

Let's Lift the Curfew is all about making a visible statement of support

Across the country, running clubs and groups come together, heading out with head torches, hi-vis clothing, flashing lights and bright colours to quite literally light up their local streets, parks and communities. These events create a powerful visual reminder that women should feel able to be active outdoors after dark and that the running community stands together in support of safer, more inclusive public spaces. By showing up, being visible and starting conversations, participants help shine a light on an issue that affects millions of women every winter.

Why get involved?

This year, the campaign is helping more people understand women's real experiences after dark and encouraging conversations about how we can all help make our communities more welcoming and inclusive.

Whether it's a social run, a walk, a Couch to 5K session or a club training night, every activity can help raise awareness and show support for women who simply want to be active on their own terms.

By taking part, your group can:

  • Create welcoming opportunities for women to be active.
  • Encourage conversations and understanding.
  • Show that your club or group supports everyone feeling confident to get active after dark.
  • Be part of a national movement for change.

Last year, more than 13,000 people took part in Let's Lift the Curfew activities across the UK, helping to make women's experiences more visible and spark conversations in communities nationwide.

If you're planning a Let's Lift the Curfew run, walk or community activity this autumn, please make sure you register it here.

Every year, we know many clubs and groups support our campaigns but don't formally register their activities. Whilst we're grateful for every event that takes place, unregistered activities mean we can't fully capture the scale and impact of what the running community is achieving.

By registering, you'll help us:

  • Measure the true impact of the campaign.
  • Demonstrate the support coming from running clubs and groups across the country.
  • Celebrate the amazing work happening in local communities.
  • Show the difference our sport is making.

Join the movement

No woman should feel she has to change where, when or how she gets active because of safety concerns. Together, let's light up our communities, lift the curfew and show that everyone deserves to feel safe and welcome being active after dark.

Whether you're organising a club run, social jog, walking group or beginner session, we'd love you to be part of Let's Lift the Curfew 2026.

With many activities taking place around the end of October, clubs and groups may also choose to incorporate a Halloween theme into their event. Fancy dress, illuminated costumes, themed routes and post-run social gatherings can all help create a fun and welcoming atmosphere while still supporting the important message at the heart of the campaign. The more visible, engaging and community-focused the event, the greater the opportunity to raise awareness and encourage new people to get involved.

Register your activity today and help us show the true impact of the running community coming together to support women being active after dark.
