Welcome to the first Mental Health Champions newsletter of 2025! The start of the year can be a challenging time for people of all ages and backgrounds, so let's see how the power of running can help support you. This month hosts both Time to Talk Day (6 February) and Children's Mental Health Week (3 - 9 February), read on to find out how you can get involved this month!

We're here to help you jump start your year of running - whether you have set yourself a goal this year or you just want to give running a go. We know that January can be a challenging month for mental health but you have made it to the finish line! If you or anyone you know made a slower start than you had hoped last month, England Athletics is here to help you make the most of your February.

Children's Mental Health Week

Children's Mental Health Week takes place Monday 3 February to Sunday 9 February 2025. This year, Place2Be have announced the theme 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself' and are focusing on the importance of growing resilience by understanding yourself and your emotions. Supporting young people's wellbeing during physical activity is crucial and what better time to get involved. Mind have put together some incredible top tips here.

Time to Talk Day 2025

Time to Talk Day falls on Thursday 6 February this year. The day is a chance for us all to be more open about our own mental health and talk to friends and family about how we really feel.

Talking about mental health isn't the easiest, but every conversation matters! Use #SportMinds across your social media to join the conversation and connect with others this Time to Talk Day.

Have your say with Mind's Big Mental Health Survey. The survey is here to find out about people's individual experiences of mental health as well as the systems currently in place. Take part to have your say in how the future of mental health will look.

Rachael's inspirational journey

Rachael Elliot triumphs in the Windsor Women's 10k

Newbury AC athlete and paracycling champion Rachael Elliot triumphed in the Windsor Women's 10k in September 2024. Rachael, who lost her sight in 2018 and had not raced the distance since 2010, beat around 1000 other sighted runners to take victory in a time of 38 minutes 43 seconds.

Relay Your Way - get involved!

Relay Your Way is a 2,500km relay across Britain taking place from 3 June to 6 July 2025. The event celebrates 1.5 million young people in the UK with disabilities and champions their right to play. Anyone can take part to walk, run, wheel, or cycle a part - or why not volunteer to check the routes beforehand for accessibility!
