Selection policy for England team at Throws Fest announced

England Athletics are pleased to announce that they will select a team of Under 18 athletes for the England Throws Camp’s (ETC) Throws Fest to compete against a home country select team, and featuring representation from England, Scotland, Wales, and Loughborough University.

This reflects our aim of getting representatives across all event groups and disciplines at all age group major events and international teams. ETC Throws Fest will therefore be aimed specifically at athletes who the selection panel believes are showing realistic progression towards future age group major events and international team selection.

The events and standards will be set at 90% of the European Athletics U18 Championship standard:

  • Shot put: 15.62m (Men, 5kg) / 13.41m (Women, 3kg)
  • Discus: 49.05m (Men, 1.5kg) / 37.80m (Women, 1kg)
  • Hammer: 61.20m (Men, 5kg) / 54.00m (Women, 3kg)
  • Javelin: 60.30m (Men, 700g) / 44.10m (Women, 500g)

In addition, the panel will select athletes who they believe satisfy the following criteria:

  • Athletes should demonstrate the potential to qualify for and medal at future age group major events and international teams.
  • Athletes should demonstrate current competitive form (by throwing at a UKA (level 2+) permitted event  between 1 July 2021 and 21 August 2021).
