PODCAST #39: Unique athlete art exhibition includes multi-talented hurdler Marli Jessop
This month's episode focuses on The Art of the Athlete exhibition, which showcases the talent of the likes of Olympic 800m silver medallist Keely Hodgkinson. The project at London's Zari Gallery during the month of May has been raising money for the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund and Lloyd Cowan Bursary Fund.
One of the artists, Marli Jessop talks to us about the inspiration behind her work. The British Universities 60m hurdles champion also discusses what it meant to receive her first Great Britain call-up to the recent Loughborough International event, and what it was like to teach celebrities how to hurdle on television for ITV show The Games.
On being selected for GB, 18-year-old Marli said:
"I've imagined it time and time again, all I've ever wanted is a GB vest. I did a painting of Dina Asher-Smith and I'm painting the details of the vest and I'm like 'I just want this vest', so when the call came through, I was overjoyed."
