PODCAST #38: David King on a bumper 2022 season, plus our vision for Commonwealth Games legacy
In this episode, Olympic semi-finalist and three-time British champion sprint hurdler David King talks about falling back in love with the sport while based in Arizona, which he hopes will propel him to success at three major championships this season.
"I honestly instantly fell back in love with the sport. Everyone in the group were such positive people, they really get behind you, they have a great laugh at training. As soon as I started enjoying the sport again, my times just shot through the roof."
He also tells host Alex Seftel how he made the World Athletics Indoor Championships final in bizarre circumstances which involved the drawing of lots.
"I'm feeling like one of the luckiest guys on the track. The amount who asked me for the lottery numbers that day, I could count on two hands."
As well as that this month, an England Athletics discussion on what the legacy of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games should look like. England Athletics CEO Chris Jones says:
"It won't just be about what happens on the track, in the field, on the road during the Games. What can we leave behind when the Games come to an end?"
England Athletics Head of Club Support and Participation Emma Davenport adds:
"The Games are in Birmingham predominantly, but that's going to generate the next set of heroes for youngsters up and down the country and clubs can capitalise on that. We are helping clubs in terms of officials and coaches in both numbers and quality, we're helping clubs to be ready for that next generation."
