Parkinson's UK and England Athletics to host November webinar
Parkinson's UK and England Athletics will team up in November to present a webinar which will raise awareness of the positive impact athletics and running can have for people living with Parkinson's and other life-affecting conditions.
The webinar, which will take place on Monday 28 November, will be an opportunity to share experiences and consider the role that physical activity can play in helping to mitigate and manage the impacts of conditions such as Parkinson's.
EA member clubs, event organisers and RunTogether group leaders and members are invited to register for the event in advance via Zoom.
Parkinson's is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, with 121,000 people in England estimated to have been diagnosed with the condition in 2020. It is predicted that by 2030 172,000 people in the UK will be diagnosed with the condition.
Chris Jones, CEO of England Athletics, said:
"There are already numerous examples across the country of individuals, volunteer led clubs, event providers, and RunTogether running groups doing some important work in helping to raise awareness, generate funds, and to provide a safe and supportive space to help participants of all backgrounds and abilities to manage existing conditions and challenges that they be face. We are proud that our sport is making such a contribution.
We are delighted to be partnering with Parkinson's UK to shine a light on these important matters."
