Masters invited to compete at the England Indoor National Championships
England Athletics are delighted to welcome a selection of masters athletes to compete at the England Indoor National Championships on 9 March in Sheffield.
We will be inviting the top six masters athletes to compete in the 200m and 800m in each of the age categories from V35 to V65. Last year there were a staggering 1645 athletes who raced over 200m, with 1773 racing the 800m.
Masters track and field athletics is growing year on year and while England Masters Athletics Association and British Masters Athletic Federation remain the organisations for full masters national championships, England Athletics are taking the opportunity to offer a selection of masters athletes the opportunity to take part in an invitational event in conjunction with our England Athletics U15 and U17 Combined Events Championships, bringing together the a full range of age groups competing under one roof.
Speaking on the inclusion of masters events, England Council chair and masters athlete, Matthew Dalton, said:
"Not only is masters athletics growing in numbers annually, that is translating into better and better performances, and strength in depth across all age groups.
"We have scores of world-class masters athletes in this country and at England Athletics we wanted to showcase that talent. I’m really looking forward to some fierce battles on 9th March."
