Kendal AAC receive temporary lighting solution from England Athletics
Affiliated club, Kendal Amateur Athletic Club, got in touch with England Athletics last year to tell us that they were struggling to train in the darker nights during the winter, so our Facilities team and Club Support team worked together to supply them with a temporary lighting solution.
For 75 years, Kendal AAC had been training in the dark during the winter months. Since its inception in 1949, the club has produced several England runners despite being a relatively smaller club that trains on a grass track.
A practical solution
England Athletics worked with the club to find a solution to the issue of training in the dark, and were able to lend the club ten temporary lights to illuminate their grass track during the darker months.
One club committee member told us:
"We had a meeting with England Athletics and they suggested that they could help us. Lo and behold, we got these ten spotlights which completely light up the field for us."
Praise for club coaches
Kendal AAC are a small, friendly, volunteer-run club based in the market town of Kendal in South Cumbria, on the edge of the Lake District.
Young athletes at Kendal AAC are incredibly proud of the volunteer coaches who guide them through sessions, as one club member told us:
"The coaches are incredible. You can tell that they want the best for us athletes. They want to see us achieving highly, they want to see us doing well."
