Judith Temperton: 1957-2023

It is with great sadness that we pass on the news of the death of Judith Temperton at the weekend. We show below part of the announcement from Northern Athletics where she recently held the position of President.

After bearing her illness for a considerable time without complaint and always with a smile she died peacefully today in hospital. It is a sad time and we will be forever grateful for being part of her life in and out of the sport.

Judith was the NOEAA Competition Manager, and also a much loved and respected Level 4 Endurance official. She gave an enormous amount to the sport and especially to the North of England with the well-being of athletes and athletics as her priority. The heartbeat of Northern Athletics, she was a real stalwart and the go-to person regarding anything athletics. She could always be relied upon and always willing to help - full of common sense with a wicked sense of humour.

She loved her job, the sport and all the people involved and will be missed by all those who worked with her, a vast number of officials and runners past and present.

All at England Athletics send our heartfelt condolences to Judith's family during this sad time.

Funeral arrangements

The funeral service will be held at Dewsbury Moor Crematorium, Heckmondwike Road, Dewsbury, WF13 3PL on Tuesday December 12th at 10:30am.  Judith’s favourite colour was yellow and the family will be wearing at least a splash of colour, although not necessarily yellow, rather than all black.

The family anticipate that there will be many people present so would appreciate assistance in planning, particularly for catering.  If you wish to attend, please email john.temperton@btinternet.com if you are able to join us, please?
