Joint Statement from England Athletics and the English Schools' Athletics Association (ESAA)
In January 2024, following a consultation process involving all Home Country Athletics Federations (HCAFs), UK Athletics’ decision to approve changes to the current competition age groups was announced.
Work has been carried out to develop the detail behind the changes and key information and principles around the changes were published in September 2024.
Over the past year, England Athletics and ESAA have remained in dialogue about age group changes and their potential impact on schools athletics. Both organisations are aware that information around how ESAA championships will work from 2026, from county to national level and across disciplines, is one of the key remaining issues to be addressed. As the implementation date of April 2026 draws closer, we are pleased to confirm the timeline and process that is being worked through in order to finalise these details:
